It's a complex device. I'm sure you'd find its operation very interesting, but -- well, do you know the eight principles of daedronic entanglement? No? Perhaps you should do some background research before we have a conversation about the BALROG, then. Ysadora Bellette
With its immense output of energy, the BALROG should be able to reawaken the latent Passwall spell within the amulet. An unconventional use of the device, but the only option we have open to us. Ralsa Ondusi
An atrocity of screaming steel. Mortals know not the forces you unleash with such abominations. Baeza
It's the device in the Genatorium. Anatolius' baby. I'm not exactly sure how it works, I just know that it needs a lot of souls to power it. If you're interested, you should go down to the basement and ask Anatolius about it. Waterfall-Beneath-Cloudy-Sky
I thought Anatolius was awfully strange when he first got here, but his device has saved me a fortune in magicka potions. With that contraption on site, the enchanters have been orders of magnitude more productive -- and more innovative. Gervis Jormand
Yes, the Bound-Arcana Level-Recombinant Occlusion Generator. It has quite the presence, doesn't it? If only I could convince the Guild that it should be moved to Ylliolos -- or, better yet, Firsthold -- now that we know it's stable. Itermerel
It seems to be running a bit better lately. Has anything changed above? It's been... well, quite some time since I've left this room. Anatolius Datus
With all the supplies, fixing the BALROG won't cause any more trouble. Thank you for your help, %pcrank. Anatolius Datus
Come back as soon as you can, please. It's very important that the BALROG is fixed as soon as possible. Anatolius Datus
You may have just prevented a catastrophe, %pcrank. Fixing the BALROG won't be any trouble now. I have something for you. I use a hood quite like this to ward off the negative health effects proximity to the BALROG can cause. Of course you won't be using it for that purpose, but it works well against other sources of deleterious magickal effects too. Anatolius Datus
No, you don't. Are you sure you have enough scrap metal? I need at least eight pieces to fix the BALROG's control rods. Anatolius Datus
Do you have the supplies? Remember, I'll need eight pieces of Dwemer scrap metal and two greater soul gems. Anatolius Datus
The rods are corroded? Oh dear. This won't do. It simply won't do. If it continues to operate this way, it would...well, never you mind. All you need to know is that it's very important that the BALROG is repaired. I can fix it, but to do so I'll need at least eight pieces of Dwemer scrap metal and two greater soul gems. So bring them back here. Please. It's very important. Oh, and good job operating the BALROG, %pcrank. Thank you for bringing back the key. Anatolius Datus
Where's the key? I'll take your report, but I'll need that back first. Go get it and bring it back here. Anatolius Datus
What are you still doing here? Raise the rods and inspect the BALROG. And be sure to lower them once you're done! Anatolius Datus
The operating levels are significantly lower than they were before the Arch-Mage left. There's one last test I'd like you to perform. Turn off both secondary modules, then raise the BALROG's rods. I need somebody to get up close to them and tell me if anything stands out. Take these potions. You may need them when you get close to the BALROG. Lastly, and this is very important, you have to lower the rods once you're finished. The BALROG may become unstable if its rods are raised for too long. Anatolius Datus
What are you waiting for? Turn on the Daedron Field Generators. Just make sure the Oblivion Stream Conduits are off first. We don't want any interference. Anatolius Datus
We'll have to keep going. Now I'd like you to turn off the Daedron Field Generators and turn them back on. Same as last time. I have an idea of what the problem might be, but I have to see this first. Anatolius Datus
What? Can't you figure out how the console works? Just turn the key, then turn off the conduits and turn them back on. It should be rather simple. Anatolius Datus
You're in? Good. Good. I'll take notes. I just need somebody to operate the BALROG's console. Here, take this key. Just insert it into the console and turn it. Then, turn off the Oblivion Stream Conduit and turn it back on. I'd do it myself, but I have to see it start up. If I turn it on myself, I wouldn't be able to see that. The wall and all. 'Safety protocols', they call it. Utter foolishness, but it's the reality of it. So I need a second to start it up. Now go ahead and do it. Please. Anatolius Datus
It's a prototype arcana reactor. The first of its kind. In crude terms, the BALROG processes the souls of summoned Daedra into raw magicka, which it produces in great quantities. The process is quite delicate, and the reactor must be vigilantly maintained to ensure these energies remain contained. The stodgy old guildmasters in Cyrodiil couldn't see the value of my work, so I took my talents to Morrowind, where fresh thinking is in higher demand. Now the spellcrafters here are reaping the benefits. Anatolius Datus
The device is essential to the operation of our guildhall. How? I'm, uh, not exactly sure. Mages Guild Disposition ≥ 30 Narsis, Guild of Mages
That's the device in the basement, right? It sure makes a lot of noise. I try to ignore it. Mages Guild Disposition ≥ 30 Narsis, Guild of Mages
