So Madril Berend spotted a stolen Indoril helm and you acquired it. I don't care if you bought or stole it from Anmoleth; it belongs to an Indoril family. Thank you for bringing this to me. I'll have the helm brought to Roa Dyr so that we may determine the owner. Irnami Silsi
So Madril Berend spotted a stolen Indoril helm. Thank you for reporting this. I'll have the helm confiscated and brought to Roa Dyr so that we may determine the owner. Irnami Silsi
Is that so? I'll dispatch a guard immediately. Hlarven Berend will be sentenced at Roa Dyr's illustrious Hall of Judgement. Unfortunately, due to the recent demise of Llaren Ilvi, the trial won't be able to proceed. Be on your way, outlander. Irnami Silsi
Is that so? I'll dispatch a guard immediately. Hlarven Berend will be sentenced at Roa Dyr's illustrious Hall of Judgement in two days. You should go there, to serve as a witness. Ensure the thief sees justice for his crimes. Irnami Silsi
I'm not sure if we'll be able to recover it. It may very well be lying at the bottom of the Thirr. The family will not be pleased to hear that it is lost. Llaren Ilvi
Very well. As there are no other witnesses and no further evidence, I will give my judgement now. I find Hlarven Berend guilty of theft and destruction of property. Due to his inability to pay a fine to replace the stolen item, he will spend the next several months in prison. Now that that's over, we all have things to do. Those who are present for the trial may disperse. May Almsivi guide the sentenced to a law-abiding life in the future. Llaren Ilvi
You are bold to come to a trial for another and plead guilty in his place. Give me the helm. [%Name examines it.] Yes, this is the helm that Hlarven supposedly stole. I declare him innocent, but you... I cannot let you walk away. I give you the choice between prison time or a 300 gold fine. Llaren Ilvi
Is that so? Let me see that. [%Name examines the helm.] Yes, this is the helm that Hlarven supposedly stole. In light of this new evidence, I declare Hlarven Berend innocent of all charges. Those who are present for the trial may disperse. Llaren Ilvi
Theft is theft. What's worse, you prove that he had no intention of returning the helm to its rightful owner. Llaren Ilvi
I see. You are suggesting that his logic and reasoning were impaired prior to the crime? This may reduce his sentence, but it does not change the other facts of the case. Llaren Ilvi
Interesting. Madril failed to mention that detail. This solidifies the fact that the theft was premeditated, even before you had any contact with the brothers. Anything else? Llaren Ilvi
I will allow it. Succeed at this, and Hlarven will be given a task to help him start a new life, free of sin. May he be granted St. Aralor's Intervention in the end. Llaren Ilvi
What concerns me the greatest is that Hlarven was fleeing to the west. If his intentions were to return the Helm of Verity to the Indoril, or even to keep it for himself, he would have no business heading out of town that way. In his opening statement, Hlarven denied any goal of entering Hlaalu lands. He says he fled out of fear in no particular direction and will not repent. Now... do you have anything to add that I may consider in my sentencing? Llaren Ilvi
Perhaps you are not aware of recent events. Hlarven Berend was arrested just west of Almas Thirr's market bridge, having made a visit to Anmoleth's shop earlier. The guards saw him toss something in the water as they caught up with him. There was no trace on his person or in the shop of the Indoril helm, which was taken from an ancestral tomb belonging to a well-known family in Almalexia. Llaren Ilvi
St. Aralor teaches us that it is possible for anyone to start anew in life: "Forget the past, but learn from it. Embrace today, yet utilize it. Anticipate your next step, then prepare for it." Hlarven Berend
I admit it. I am a thief. I hope I can make something of myself after this pilgrimage. Hlarven Berend
That's what I was thinking. It's the only way out of here in which I keep both my freedom and honor. Let Llaren Ilvi know that I demand a duel of honor. Hlarven Berend
I... I... hmph. Fine. Yes, you're right, it's the best option I have right now, isn't it? [He takes a slow breath in.] I am a thief, a fool who went too far to stop his brother and broke Almsivi's sacred laws. I see now that I have made bad decisions, and I hope that my brother and the family I stole from can forgive me. From this day forth I will follow Saint Aralor, he who will guide me away from sin, to a life blessed by the Three. Hlarven Berend Disposition ≥ 90
No! Not a chance. I will not stand here and humble myself before these abominable Indoril. Hlarven Berend
I won't do it. I didn't even commit the crime! Please, you have to give the Indoril evidence to prove my innocence. Hlarven Berend
That's the helm all right! Excellent. I won't ask how you obtained it. Just take this gold and we'll let the topic be. Agreed? I have to go now. Goodbye, %PCName. Hlarven Berend
Morality is a small thing compared to the divide this will create between me and my brother. Different Great Houses. That will be the end. We'll never be able to talk to each other again on friendly terms with the ever-increasing tension between Indoril and Hlaalu. Why can't he see the error of his ways, the obvious superiority of House Hlaalu? Do you see what this is about, %PCName? I insist that you acquire that helm for me. That's the only way to make things right. Hlarven Berend
Madril saw it in Anmoleth's shop. Southwest side of the canton. The helm is concealed somewhere behind the counter, if I remember his story right. Hlarven Berend
Madril told you, huh? I have a better idea. If you can acquire that helm for me -- buy it, steal it, whatever -- I'll hold on to it. Madril could go ahead and report to the Indoril. They'll think he made it up, and he'll remain a Velothi commoner. Someday I'll convince him that Hlaalu is the correct House for us. Hlarven Berend
The trial has been delayed due to Llaren Ilvi's death. I'll find a way to contact you if you're needed in the trial. In the meantime, there is nothing you or I can do to hurry this along. Madril Berend
Not much I can tell you right now. Neither of us has joined a Great House yet, so that news is at least half good. Madril Berend
Rumors spread fast, and it seems you were successful in reporting to Irnami Silsi. Hlarven is suspicious but I believe my lack of involvement will keep him from acting on his threat. Hopefully I'll be able to join House Indoril before he tries to join the Hlaalu. My success will encourage him to follow my example. Here, take this holy book. May the Three watch over you, outlander. Madril Berend
That's the subject of this trial. Hlarven didn't have it on him when he was arrested, but the helm was missing and certain details lead me to believe he is the only suspect. Madril Berend
One of Indoril Ilvi's children is likely to preside over the trial. Golvor and Danvas are too busy nowadays; I'm sure it'll be Llaren Ilvi. Be prepared to give a statement. Madril Berend
I'll find a way to contact you if you're needed in the trial. In the meantime, there is nothing you or I can do to hurry this along. It's really a shame what happened to Llaren Ilvi. Madril Berend
Is Hlarven going to steal the helm? No, this is terrible! I don't doubt he'll succeed, but this ruins my chance of returning the helm. I must report Hlarven to House Indoril. He won't be running away to join House Hlaalu -- he'll be arrested. There will be a hearing in Roa Dyr before Hlarven is sentenced. There's been some trouble there, though. Llaren Ilvi was murdered recently, and the other lords are preoccupied. I may have to call you as a witness one day, %PCName, but not today. Madril Berend
I heard some heated words over there. Is Hlarven going to steal the helm? No, this is terrible! I don't doubt he'll succeed, but this ruins my chance of returning the helm. I have no other choice but to report Hlarven to House Indoril. He won't be running away to join House Hlaalu -- he'll be arrested. I wish it hadn't come to this. There will be a hearing in Roa Dyr before Hlarven is sentenced. I want you to come, %PCName, as a witness. Meet us in the Hall of Judgement in Roa Dyr in two days. Madril Berend
You won't believe this. Hlarven left Almas Thirr and went to join House Hlaalu! The helm is gone. He stole it and sold it to the Hlaalu to gain their favor. I know he did. I'll never forgive him for this. Madril Berend
Talk to Hlarven and convince him that reporting the helm is the right thing to do, or report it to Irnami Silsi for me. I don't care which, so long as it gets confiscated. Madril Berend
Thank you, outlander. If you can convince him that I'm doing it because it's right, not just to gain reputation with House Indoril... please do so. Or report it to the Indoril commander Irnami Silsi for me. She's usually in the garrison in the northern lighthouse. Let her know where I found it, and she will take care of the problem. Madril Berend
A Bosmer named Anmoleth runs a shop on the southwest side of the canton. I was browsing her wares the other day when I noticed a helm that wasn't in there before. I know it's stolen because it has a certain name engraved on it. I'm sure Anmoleth is uninvolved. She buys and sells, and whoever stole that helm is long gone with a bag of gold in their pocket. What matters is that helm belongs in an Indoril ancestral tomb. I want to report it, but Hlarven threatened to run away and join House Hlaalu if I did. Madril Berend Disposition ≥ 50
